Hey! If you're reading this right now, it menas you're still alive. and if you're still alive, that means that you still have a purpose on this Earth!!! PURPOSE. Such a powerful reason for being, but the truth of the matter is, many know NOT why they are here and WHAT they are called to do. God put us all on this Earth for a specific reason and a specific purpose. I hope that in reading this that you are able to get a little closer to what it is that He has called YOU to do!
The cliche response for individuals who are seeking their purpose is to "seek God". While this is VERY true statement, it is also very bland. Everyone does not know HOW to seek God or even what it means to seek God. That matter is another blog in itself, BUT I will give a few steps that may make seeking God on this matter a bit more understandable.
1. Be Willing to Buck the System
Some of us get caught up in particular careers for the wrong reasons; money, pressure from family/peers, etc. We are so caught up in society's protocol that we fail to remember that there is no right or wrong guide to living purposefully. We consistently go through the motions of school, work, and in return we are never fulfilled because we went a path that SEEMED right based on other's insight, but in actuality was not the right path for us. Don't get me wrong. Education is extremely important, and I highly recommend an education in today's society, HOWEVER, education is NOT limited to the amount of degrees that one has to their name or how many classes that one takes. To educate means to give intellectual, moral, and social instruction to. This can be by way of school, classes, books, experience, Divine intervention, etc. We can not put the broad act of being educated into the box of school. work, retirement, death. WE have to find the route that works best for us, and walk that path with intense confidence.
2. Be Open
Many individuals like to chase careers that LOOK appealing. The glamour. The business attire and private offices. The titles and validation from people. #FAIL. What if you were meant to serve as the lead sanitation engineer for the wrold's LARGEST and most successful trash company? What if you were meant to be a missionary traveling the world serving others? To some, these may not sound as appealing, but every career has an extreme importance for a REASON. Screw titles. We're about PURPOSE! Be open to your calling. If you obtain a closed mind and heart about your calling, when God speaks, you won't receive. You will either mistake YOUR voice and desires for God's OR you will hear but choose to remain disobedient. When searching for purpose, we must always remain OPEN never placing God into a box; especially OUR box.
3. Look for the Signs
There was a time when I questioned whether or not I could hear from God. I was a babe in Christ, but I truly loved God, and I wanted His will for my life. I asked God to give me His heart, show me His heart. I asked Him to reveal things to me. Even before I actually knew the voice of God, I KNEW the voice of God as it was within me. I was really good at devising marketing plans, budgets, business plans, and business structures. Though I did these things well, I only carried expertise, but I lacked PASSION. Just because you're good at something does not always mean that is your calling. It was something about writing that made me head over heels for my life!! I would just sit in my room and WRITE. I was SOOOOOOO fulfilled!!! The feelings of completion and happiness were so prevalent during my me time. I would lock myself in my room, playing my instruments, singing, writing, brainstorming, and hours would pass, but it only seemed like minutes. I knew that I could give up anything in my life: the social aspects, the small financial success I had at the time, ANYTHING really, as long as I had my music and my notepad!! I told my parents and my teachers, SCREW college. In my mind, I wasn't going into "bondage" when I already knew what I loved to do and was called to do!
One of my favorite rappers, Da T.R.U.T.H has a song entitled "Every Day" in which he gives great advice on how to recognize these "signs". Where do you like to go? What do you like to do? What are your strengths? What frustrates you? or as he says "What drives you up a wall, cause' your greatest frustration is a problem that you are here to solve."
What are those things that you coulld do for FREE if you knew that shelter/food/clothing weren't factors. What are those things that long after you generate millions, you would STILL do for FREE just because you love it so much?
In the midst of seeking God, we must also be proactive. It is fact that faith WITHOUT works is DEAD, but faith PLUS works brings RESULTS! Are we ready to take greater steps to become closer to our purpose? GIT-ER- DOOONNEEE!!!
Thank you for taking the time to hear my heart! Here is a link to Da T.R.U.T.H's song "EVERYDAY". I hope that it inspires!
